n 2022, Florida Democrats warned that a new law for challenging school books was overly broad and would lead to chaos.
Recently, Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill to refine this law after blaming its misuse on liberal activists, though the primary abuse came from regular citizen complaints leading to numerous book removals.
The only example of a liberal activist misusing the law provided by DeSantis' office involved Chaz Stevens, who challenged the inclusion of the Bible and dictionaries in schools.
The revised law now restricts book challenges to those directly affected, like parents of students.

Filing near-identical petitions with 63 Florida school districts asking to ban the Bible. He has also filed a second petition with one district, Broward County Public Schools, requesting the removal of the Oxford English Dictionary.
